Class 2S

2S children working hardHello from 2S!

This term we are going to be having lots of interesting lessons linked to the Olympics! We have already learnt about the Olympic torch! We learnt that 8,000 people have been chosen to be torchbearers. These people are so inspirational it was thought that they deserved to carry the torch on its 8,000 mile long journey.  We also learnt that the torch has 8,000 holes in it, each hole representing an inspirational torchbearer.

In Literacy, we thought about the people who are inspirational to us and wrote brilliant torchbearer nominations. We also made our own Olympic torches using card and gold foil. We made bright orange, yellow and red flames using tissue paper. Making the torch was a little tricky but we all got there in the end!

We have just started to make the 2012 Olympic gold medals using clay. You can see some children enjoying practicing using clay in the picture. We find using clay really enjoyable even though sometimes it is a challenge to make shapes and to join clay properly.

There are lots more things to look forward to in this term; we have a fantastic sports day coming up, where we will be competing in sporting events, just like real athletes. There will also be the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations where we will be planning and making celebratory meals, planning and attending parties and making costumes. It will be a fun-filled, action-packed term and we are extremely excited!

See you soon!
