Class 1K

Hello and welcome to 1K! Our teacher is Karen, and our Educational Assistant is Hazra. Mark also helps us to learn about music twice a week.

Our topic this term is 'The London Olympics.' It is an incredibly exciting and unique year to be a student in Newham, the host for the 2012 Olympic Games. We have already begun to investigate and research local athletes competing in the games using search engines in ICT. Now that we have collected all this data we are able to create a factsheet by cutting, pasting and editing.

This half term we are also learning about the first Olympic Games held in Ancient Greece. Did you know that women were not allowed to participate or even watch the Games taking place? Please come and ask us to tell you more about Greece, we have learnt a lot of interesting facts!    

During numeracy we are hard at work learning our 2, 3, 5, and 10 times tables.  Once we are proficient at these we are awarded a bronze Olympian times table award.

Meanwhile in literacy we are learning about what makes a good sentence. We try to use openers, connectives and juicy words to ensure our writing is lively and interesting to prepare ourselves for year 2.
